What type of running shoe should I wear with an orthotic? |
|
|
Many times
we have heard that you can only wear a neutral shoe
with an orthotic. This is not true, we suggest that
where possible the shoe should be the main influence
on how the orthotic is made. i.e. if the foot heavily
pronates then an anti-pronating shoe maybe chosen,
so that the orthotic doesn't need to be made too
aggressively.
First Point to Note - Transitioning from a rear
foot strike to a Mid/fore foot strike may change
how the foot functions. For instance if you strike
at the rear foot and moderately pronate, with a
forefoot strike you may be more toward neutral?
It is advisable to have a regular gait assessment
to keep on top of you running and avoid injury.
Second Point to Note - the lifecycle of a shoe.
Every model of shoe has a 12 month lifecycle. At
the 6 month point invariably a colour change will
occur and at the 12 month point there will be a
model revamp (upgrade of model number e.g. Asics
1140 to 1150). This revamp may involve a technical
alteration of which may change the functionality
of the shoe and take it from being the right one
for you to something that is less than suitable.
